THE 2012 HARDEN CHILDREN'S GALA
Despite a fairly foreboding weather forecast for Harden Children's Gala this year, the day dawned overcast but fine. It continued in that vein for most of the morning but deposited a heavy, sharp shower as lunchtime approached. That shower probably convinced the doubters that Harden Gala was to be avoided. Fortunately the optimists ensured an attendance of around 800 people and the weather turned out to be reasonably acceptable after all. The Gala is very traditional and the Gala Queen, Amy Holdsworth opened the Gala with help from her attendants Rosie Bailey and Ruby Alvey. The preceding procession incorporated the fancy dress entrants and the walking tableau and floats and although the crowds were slightly reduced, they were very appreciative. A variety of stalls and games, performances by a magician and the children's races kept everybody occupied. Until, that is, a sharp shower at 4.30pm prompted a quick exodus for many. The New Orleans Jazz Band led the procession and provided foot tapping entertainment during the afternoon. The tea tent was its usual hive of activity. The Gala committee is particularly grateful to all who helped in any way to put on the Gala and that includes people of all ages. Finally thanks to those who attended the Gala in such numbers despite the weather forecast. We very much appreciate your loyalty.
We estimate that we require around 150 volunteers on gala day and are always on the look-out for more people to help! If you would like to be a volunteer or join the committee please contact us.
A fun and affordable afternoon for everyone
