All of the Gala Committee meetings this year have revolved around whether or not we could hold the gala this year.
When the road map out of lockdown was announced, we realised we could not hold any event on the original date of 19 June, but we began considering if we could arrange something for July.
However, the more we thought about it, the more difficult it became.
We still do not know if all the restrictions will be lifted on 21 June and even if they are whether the people of the village will be happy to meet together in large numbers even in the open space of the Memorial Park.
Even if we arranged a smaller event without any of the hired equipment such as the marquee, roundabout, bouncy castles etc we would still have to rely on the assistance of the our usual band of volunteers and we just did not know how many would be willing to do this.
We also had no idea what rules there would be even if the large gathering was allowed regarding social distancing, sanitising etc.
The more we thought about it the more we felt that the event just could not go ahead and we sadly decided to follow the lead of most other local galas and cancel.
We are so sorry, but we hope to be back in full swing next year.
Please don’t forget Gala day 2022 - Saturday June 18th
However nothing stops us completely!
The Queen and attendants who missed their opportunity to officiate both last year and this will be given a full posh afternoon tea on the gala field on gala day (Saturday 19 June 2021) and they will leave packets of sweets around the park for the children of the village to find after 4pm.
We also, after last year’s success, hope to arrange some village event just prior to Christmas – watch this space!
